Paper Company Uses Anti-Gay Leaflets For Wedding Confetti To Support Same-Sex Marriage In Ireland

DUBLIN (CBS SF) -- A paper company is using a new product on its shelves as a creative comeback to opponents of same-sex marriage in Ireland.

Dublin-based company Daintree Papers describes "A Shred Of Decency" on its Facebook page as "confetti made from 100 percent recycled lies in support of marriage equality."

The concept is simple. Any literature expressing homophobic comments as Ireland prepares to vote on same-sex marriage is turned into pieces of colorful confetti for weddings.

"At Daintree, paper is our favourite thing in the whole world," the company posted on its website. "So when paper was used to spread some ugly lies in the run up to the marriage equality referendum we weren't one bit happy."

All proceeds of the sales from the confetti, which costs €5, will be donated to the Yes Equality campaign. If the referendum succeeds in May, Ireland could become the first country in the world to pass marriage equality by national vote.

Daintree said the public is invited to recycle anti-gay leaflets at its Dublin paper shop where employees will then convert them into heart-shaped confetti pieces.
