SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Twenty-nine people were injured when a party bus overturned on Highway 101 in San Francisco Friday night, according to fire officials.

San Francisco Fire Department Lt. Jonathan Baxter said the injuries from the crash ranged from broken bones to cuts and scrapes.

CHECK LIVE TRAFFIC MAP

The California Highway Patrol first reported the incident at 8:06 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 at the Cesar Chavez Street off-ramp.

CHP officer Vu Williams said the bus struck the center divider then crossed several lanes before overturning in the far right lane.

Of the 29 victims, four suffered serious injuries, nine suffered moderate injuries and 16 suffered minor injuries, San Francisco Fire Department officials said.

The overturned bus forced the closure of all but one southbound lane and was cleared around 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the CHP.

KPIX has learned the bus was chartered by a group heading from San Francisco to Palo Alto.

The bus driver, Renato Rodriguez, spoke with KPIX 5's Da Lin and he said his bus fish-tailed going around Hospital Curve. Rodriguez said the reason he was unhurt was because he was wearing his seat belt.

Authorities say the driver is cooperating and SFFD Lt. Baxter commended him for being the last person from the bus at the scene.
