Orinda man won't face charges in deadly road-rage shooting
No charges will be filed in a deadly shooting that happened during a road rage incident in Orinda in 2024, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office said.
On Sept. 12, an Orinda man driving on St. Stephens Drive passed someone on a Toyota 4Runner. The DA said the driver of the 4Runner had been going slow and veering off to the right side of the road.
The driver of the 4Runner was identified as 50-year-old Scott Decker of Truckee and Orinda.
After being passed, Decker pulled in front of the Orinda man's vehicle and blocked the roadway.
Decker then approached the Orinda resident's vehicle and punched him in the face three times as he sat inside his vehicle.
The Orinda man pulled out a gun and fired a single shot which hit Decker in the neck, according to the DA. Decker died at the scene.
The Orinda man was a registered gun owner and had a concealed carry permit at the time of the shooting. According to the DA, an in-vehicle camera recorded the incident, and the video was shared with police.
After investigating the incident, the DA said no charges would be filed.
