On The Busiest Travel Day Of The Year, Expect Packed Roads, Crowded Bay Area Airports
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – It is considered the busiest travel day of the year and all three major airports in the Bay Area are already packed, as travelers look to get to their destination before Thanksgiving.
That includes at Mineta San Jose International Airport. Because of the crowds and holiday rush, travelers can often feel a bit stressed out. But not Danny, who is traveling to Alaska to be with his wife for Thanksgiving.
"Not a worry in the world. I forgot it was Thanksgiving so I'm just cruising and doing the normal thing," he said. "Hopefully we're here early and no delays."
San Jose International is helping travelers unwind if they need to, by offering therapy dogs to weary passengers and discounts on long term parking.
There will be plenty of cars on the road this Thanksgiving as well, with lower gas prices across the country.
"We are going to have a surge of traffic. No matter how you look at it, no matter what time you leave, you are going to encounter traffic," said Cynthia Harris with AAA. "We suggest that you leave as early as possible."
It is estimated that nearly 4 percent more people will be traveling this year compared to last due to the improving economy and much lower gas prices.
