Fire burns vacant warehouse in Oakland's Fruitvale District

Oakland firefighters have contained a two-alarm structure fire in the city's Fruitvale neighborhood that began early Wednesday morning.

The warehouse is on 29th Avenue just south of E. 12th Street in the city's Fruitvale District. The fire was first reported at 5:50 a.m. and placed under control at was placed under control at around 6:35 a.m. the Oakland Fire Department said on social media.

The fire collapsed one wall and the roof of the building, according to an Oakland Fire Department spokesman. No injuries have been reported.

The fire response stopped nearby rail traffic in both directions and blocked vehicular traffic between the railroad tracks and the BART rail line on 29th Ave.

Crews are working on opening up adjacent rail traffic that was stopped in both directions because of the fire, the Fire Department said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
