Oakland Restaurant Nido Offers To Host Lebron James, Cavs During NBA Finals
OAKLAND (KCBS) - The entire Bay Area has seemingly been caught up in the Golden State Warriors incredible run during this year's NBA Playoffs. But not everyone in Oakland is donning the blue and gold.
Cory McCollow owns Nido, a Mexican restaurant near Interstate 880, with his wife Silvia. Although he has loved seeing the Warriors success this year, his heart still lies with the Cleveland Cavaliers. You see, Cory was born in Venedocia, Ohio, a village of 124. And he never imagined seeing the Warriors facing the Cavs in the NBA Finals.
"I like the Warriors 80 of the 82 games a year. I never thought I would have to make the decision that I'm having to make this week," McCollow said.
Normally behind the bar at Nido, McCollow has taken plenty of heckling while wearing the Cavs colors. But he said during the Finals, it will be business as usual. "I can't just tell the lady at the bar to hold on her margarita because Lebron James is at the foul line," he said.
McCollow is such a Cavs fan that he has sent out an open invitation for the team to dine at Nido while they're in the Bay Area for the Finals. So far, no word on whether they will take him up on his offer.
The staff at Nido has been decked out in blue and gold throughout the NBA season, including Silvia, often in her Stephen Curry t-shirt. She's a big Warriors fan but, "80 games a year, she would go ahead and cheer for Lebron and the Cavs because she doesn't really care when they're playing, unless they're playing the Warriors," Cory said.
Nido, which translates to nest in Spanish, serves farm-to-table Mexican food and drinks, with many of the menu items based on family recipes.
Sitting near Interstate 880 on the edge of Jack London Square and the Warehouse District, it has been Warriors territory all season long, but we'll see if that changes for the NBA Finals.
