Suspects Arrested After Oakland Police Manhunt Near Mills College
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Police in Oakland apprehended two suspects in an area near Mills College Friday following an apparent pursuit and crash, according to authorities.
An Oakland Police Department spokesperson confirmed that officers were engaged in a manhunt near of I-580 in the area of Seminary and Calaveras for an individual who is wanted in connection with felony crimes in Oakland.
Video shot by Newschopper 5 showed over a dozen police units with officers combing through the area. The search comes after an apparent pursuit of a wanted vehicle that ended in a crash.
Police announced that the Seminary off ramp from eastbound I-580 was closed for the search shortly after 12 p.m.
Video showed a power pole that was apparently knocked over in the crash. Police confirmed that one person was already arrested. As of 3:15 p.m., officers were continuing their search for the second suspect.
Mills College officials said students were still on winter break and not present on campus, but staff members were notified to shelter in place just after 11:30 a.m. The order was still in effect until about 3 p.m., when the school was given the all clear by Oakland police.
Shortly afterwards, officials confirmed that the second suspect had been taken into custody.
Authorities did not offer any details about the crime the suspect was wanted for, only saying that it was part of an ongoing felony investigation.
