Oakland Police Investigating Shooting That Injured Woman in Front of Fox Theater

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Police in Oakland are investigating a downtown shooting in broad daylight Wednesday afternoon that left a woman injured close to the Fox Theater entrance, according to authorities.

The Oakland Police Department confirmed the shooting happened at around 2:30 p.m. on the 1900 block of Telegraph Avenue where the Fox Theater is located.

Responding officers found an adult female victim who was struck by gunfire.

Video shot by Chopper 5 showed an OPD vehicle and an area cordoned off by police tape right in front of the Fox Theater.

Police said the victim was transported to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

There were additional reports about the shooting that indicated the gunfire may have stemmed from a gun battle between two vehicles, but authorities have not confirmed that.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the Fox Theater announced that the concert Wednesday evening had been cancelled "due to unforeseen circumstances." While the Twitter post didn't reference the injury to the woman who was injured outside the Fox, here were some reports that the cancellation stemmed from the shooting.

Police said this is an ongoing investigation and there are no additional details at this time. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the OPD Felony Assault Unit at (510) 238-3426.
