Oakland Motorcyclist Caught By CHP Plane Popping Wheelies At High Speed Arrested

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A motorcyclist performing wheelies and speeding at more than 100 mph was arrested in Oakland on Wednesday after officers aboard a California Highway Patrol airplane videotaped the reckless driving and followed him home, a CHP officer said Thursday.

At about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, a CHP airplane on a routine patrol spotted the motorcyclist, later identified as 23-year-old Corey McDonah, traveling on westbound Interstate Highway 80 and followed him as he merged onto eastbound Interstate Highway 580, CHP Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said.

McDonah, a San Leandro resident, was seen speeding, popping wheelies and performing other stunts, Wilkenfeld said.

The CHP aircraft overhead kept pace with the motorcyclist until he arrived at his house, where he got off his motorcycle and went inside, according to Wilkenfeld.

CHP officers on the ground arrived at the residence and made contact with McDonah when he answered the door.

Officers arrested McDonah for reckless driving and booked him into jail, Wilkenfeld said.

Officers aboard the aircraft videotaped the entire ride and handed the footage over to the district attorney's office as evidence, Wilkenfeld said.
