Oakland Man Fatally Shot After Struggling With Brother Over Shotgun

OAKLAND (CBS SF) — Oakland police say a man struggling with his brother over a shotgun was killed when the weapon went off Tuesday evening.

The shooting was reported at about 6:40 p.m. in the 900 block of Aileen Street.

Eugene Chew, 37, was outside doing work with his brother, Johnny Chew, 40, when they got into an argument, Oakland police Officer Robert Trevino said.

The argument escalated to the point where Eugene Chew went into the house and came back with a shotgun. The two struggled over the gun and Eugene Chew ended up shot, Trevino said.

Eugene Chew was taken to Highland Hospital but died from his injuries a short time later, police said.

Johnny Chew was taken into custody for questioning and had not been booked into jail as of this morning.
