Disabled Crane Cleared Off Southbound I-880 In Oakland; Lanes Reopened
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A disabled crane that spilled fluid on southbound I-880 and forced several lanes to be closed for hours Thursday has been cleared.
The disabled crane was first reported near Oak Street in Oakland at about 9:47 a.m. About a half hour later, CHP issued the severe traffic alert. The #3, #4 and #5 lanes are blocked.
Crews were cleaning up fluid spilled from the crane for several hours. Shortly before 4 p.m., CHP announced that only the far right southbound lane of I-880 was still blocked.
Just after 4 p.m., CHP said that all lanes had been reopened and that drivers should expect some residual delays. The lane closures lasted nearly six hours.
