NRA Loses Latest Challenge To San Francisco Gun, Bullet Regulations
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) - A federal appeals court has upheld two San Francisco gun laws challenged by the National Rifle Association and gun owners who live in the city.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday said the city can require handgun owners to secure weapons in lockers, keep them on their bodies or apply trigger locks to the guns when stored at home. The three-judge panel also upheld the city's sales ban on ammunition that expands on impact and is often referred to as hollow point bullets.
The ruling affirmed a lower court ruling. The appeals court said San Francisco's restrictions are reasonable attempts to increase public safety without trampling on Second Amendment rights.
The NRA's lawyer said the ruling will be appealed.
