Not Enough Hotels Near Santa Clara's Levi's Stadium As Occupancy And Rates Soar
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Finding a hotel room in Santa Clara these days is like a Hail Mary. 49er games and other events at Levi's Stadium have resulted in an occupancy boom with September being marked as a banner month for eight of the stadium's surrounding hotels.
Filling up hotel rooms during the week usually wasn't a problem before Levi's Stadium opened. It was the weekends that were an issue, but not anymore, especially when the Niners are playing.
Aside from an international soccer match between Mexico and Chile, September held the first two NFL regular-season games ever in Santa Clara.
"Levi's Stadium is making a noticeable difference along with the convention center events along with California's Great America theme park," said David Andre with the Santa Clara Convention and Visitor's Bureau. "We are seeing out-of-towners from the 49ers' game, they come from Sacramento, they come from Fresno [and] some of the games like Seattle, and they're coming from Seattle. They're filling up the hotels and our hotels saw an immediate increase in their occupancy and their reservations as soon as the schedule was announced."
He said not only has hotel occupancy soared, but so have rates.
"For example, last September the average daily rate was $166. This September it's $200. That's significant."
Andre said more hotel rooms are needed to handle upcoming big events like Wrestlemania 31 next March and Super Bowl 50 the following year.
