No Foul Play Suspected In Campus Death Of Stanford Student
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the on-campus death of a Stanford University student but do not suspect foul play, according to newspaper reports.
Deputies responded Friday to a medical emergency at a residence, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said. The Stanford Daily reported that the residence was the Theta Delta Chi fraternity house.
Fire officials told deputies they found an unresponsive man and pronounced him dead at 10:21 a.m, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The man was not immediately identified.
"The preliminary investigation shows no signs of foul play," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
Students, teachers and staff were notified of the death in a letter from Susie Brubaker-Cole, the university's vice provost. She said the student was an undergraduate but the school is not yet releasing his identity.
"This is very difficult news for any family to bear. Our university community grieves with them," Brubaker-Cole said.
Counseling and support services have been offered to the student's friends, housemates and classmates, the Chronicle said.
The sheriff's office is investigating.
