NJ Gov. Chris Christie Raising Cash In Bay Area, Boosting Kashkari's Gubernatorial Campaign
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The man hoping to unseat California's incumbent governor got a boost Friday from the man who resides in New Jersey's statehouse.
Governor Chris Christie continued his California swing in the Bay Area Friday by touring San Francisco with California gubernatorial challenger Neel Kashkari. The Republican duo visited a local flower shop on Seventh Street. The visit was expected to give added visibility to Kashkari's campaign against Jerry Brown.
"When the Republicans who supported his opponent look at the differences between Neel and what he would do for California versus what Governor Brown has done for California, they are going to be supporting and voting for Neel. So Neel's job is going to be to reach out to independents and Democrats to say to them 'listen, if you want a new direction for California, a new economy for California, we need a new leadership in California,' and that's why I am going to support Neel," Christie said during the SF stop.
From there, Christie was headed to a $10,000-a-plate Luncheon for the Republican Governor's Association. Kashkari then visited the CBS studios in San Francisco to discuss his general election plans.
Last week, Kashkari defeated Tea Party candidate Tim Donnelly to advance represent the GOP in the November general election. Kashkari is a former Bush Administration U.S. Treasury official who led 2008 federal bailout efforts.
Christie is on a fundraising swing and publicity tour that included a "dad dancing" session on Thursday's "Tonight Show" filmed in Southern California.
