NFL On CBS Broadcast Team's San Francisco Visit Is Latest Sign Of Super Bowl 50's Approach

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -  Super Bowl 50 may still be more than 220 days away, but a visit Wednesday by the on-air personalities tasked with broadcasting the action generated some buzz for the big game coming to the Bay Area.

"It's not just any Super Bowl...It happens to be arguably the biggest one has ever been held...The NFL has been looking at this (anniversary) for a long time," said broadcaster Jim Nantz. "For it to be on our watch is a real thrill."

KPIX 5 Sports Director Dennis O'Donnell sat down with Nantz and his broadcast partner, star quarterback turned analyst Phil Simms, to talk about the chances of San Francisco becoming a regular stop on the Super Bowl tour.

"It's been a long time," said Nantz. "I could see (the Bay Area) being back on the docket. It's so competitive though."

"It's a beautiful spot in the country...you want the fans to come and enjoy the whole week," said Phil Simms. "You've got everything here, no question about it."

Nantz said a memorable game would go a long way for the Bay Area's future chances.

"Six or seven years from now, maybe it all comes back," said Nantz.

Sims seemed less inclined to return, thanks to some typical San Francisco weather.

"It's cold," he said. "This is summer in San Francisco?"

Super Bowl 50 will be held February 7th, 2016 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara and will be broadcast locally by KPIX 5.
