New Jake Gyllenhaal Film 'Nightcrawler' Places An Ad On Craigslist

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The newly released trailer for Jake Gyllenhaal's upcoming drama "Nightcrawler" begins with a monologue from his character Lou Bloom. (watch the preview above)

"I'm looking for a job. In fact, I've made up my mind to find a career that I can learn and grow into..." Gyllenhaal says.

Early on, the trailer plays much like a video resume found on YouTube and posted on San Francisco-based Craigslist. In fact, that's exactly what happened. Gyllenhaal's character posted an actual ad on Craigslist-Los Angeles that read:

Hard Worker Seeking Employment
My name is Lou Bloom. I'm looking for full-time employment. No job too big or too small. I have my own car and phone. Persistent, punctual, polite and hardworking. Will work nights.

Please take a look at my video resume: http://youtu.be/0PsgbMlggTY

As "Lou Bloom," Gyllenhaal lost almost 20 pounds telling E! News "I can only approach things from a mental place...Like I'm playing a character who's hungry, figuratively and literally, who's driven in ways to do things and succeed at any cost..."

*About "Nightcrawler":

Nightcrawler is a pulse-pounding thriller set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism. Finding a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles into the cut-throat, dangerous realm of nightcrawling -- where each police siren wail equals a possible windfall and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Rene Russo as Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news, Lou thrives. In the breakneck, ceaseless search for footage, he becomes the star of his own story.

The film is written and directed by Dan Gilroy, best known for screenwriting "The Bourne Legacy" starring Jeremy Renner and "Real Steel" starring Hugh Jackman. "Nightcrawler" also stars Rene Russo (Thor), Bill Paxton (Twister/Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and British actor Riz Ahmed (Four Lions). Gyllenhaal also takes on producer duties.

"Nightcrawler" comes out in theaters October 17, 2014.
