Neighborhood Evacuated After Gas Line Ruptures In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- PG&E crews were working to repair a ruptured 4-inch gas line that prompted evacuations in San Francisco's Lake Street neighborhood Monday morning, a PG&E spokeswoman said.
The leak was reported at 9:27 a.m. in the 100 block of 10th Avenue between Lake and California streets, fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.
The leak was reported on a residential gas line and prompted fire crews to order the evacuation of residents from the 100 block of 10th Avenue. The block has also been closed to traffic in both directions, Talmadge said.
PG&E crews arrived by about 10 a.m. and as of about 11 a.m. were still working to stop the leak, PG&E spokeswoman Brittany McKannay said.
The leak was started when a construction crew digging in the area struck a 4-inch gas distribution line. PG&E crews have to make further excavations to stop the flow of gas, McKannay said.
So far no one in the area has lost gas service, but once the line is capped some customers will likely lose service, she said.
No injuries have been reported, Talmadge said.
