NASA Experts Propose Building Base On Moon To 'Learn To Live On Another World'

MOFFETT FIELD (KCBS) -- A group of NASA experts are proposing we go back to the moon, and set up shop for a while.

The proposed base could help space agencies reach the International Space Station more easily.

"There is a thought that if we had a moon base, we could be extracting and making liquid oxygen on the moon, and use it to power vehicles in space, and go beyond the moon," NASA Ames Astrobiologist Chris McKay said.

The proposed base would help humans adapt to living in space, according to McKay.

"The most important advantage of a moon base is that we learn to live on another world," McKay said.

The base could be set up as soon as 2022, at a cost of about $10 billion.
