Narsai David: Heading To The Russian River Valley For Merry Edward Wines

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)--Merry Edwards winery in the Russian River Valley has a couple wines you have to try. First, is the 2012 Pinot Noir with its deep, purplish color with a captivating bouquet.

The ripe fruit essence includes black cherries and plums, but there are additional mixed berry flavors on the palate, along with just enough oak. There's enough tannin and acid for balance, but more importantly, there is enough of it altogether, that this wine will age beautifully. You can enjoy it right now with a piece of beef, but I would hold it for a few years and watch it grow. It's priced very fairly at $45. Merry Edwards also makes a half dozen Pinots from individual vineyards at a little bit of a higher price.

Then their 2013 Sauvignon Blanc has a distinctive herbal and spicy aroma. You'll find wonderful grape and even citrus notes that create a mouth watering fruitiness. Long after taking a sip, the flavors linger. This is the perfect wine for a paella, or spicy and rich-sauced poultry dish. You don't have to rush drinking it either. It will continue to develop complexity for a few years. The price on this one is $32.
