Napa Valley Food Bank Helps Distribute Food To Those In Need Following Earthquake
NAPA (KCBS) – The city of Napa continues in its recovery efforts, less than a week after a 6.0 earthquake rocked the area.
The Red Cross contacted the Napa Valley Food Bank about food need following the quake. Napa Valley Food Bank Program Assistant Karen Neal said they set up special distribution hours to meet the community's need. "Because we're so busy in this demand, we're actually getting everything ready for people so we can accommodate everybody," she said.
On Thursday, volunteers loaded up grocery carts with fresh fruit and vegetables, meats, beans and canned goods.
Jennifer Walter, who isn't working right now, came in for the helping hand.
"I lost all of my milk, yogurt, fruits and vegetables, all of my perishable foods," she said. "I was able to save a few condiments."
The giveaway is being staffed by volunteers and more than a hundred families have already taken advantage, no questions asked.
Those who normally receive food from the Napa Valley Food Bank can receive this assistance, in addition to their regular help.
