Napa High School Football Players Held Down, Assaulted By Teammates

NAPA (CBS SF) -- Napa police are investigating a report of an assault involving multiple students on the Napa High School football team.

Police Capt. Jennifer Gonzales said police received information on Saturday about the alleged assault.

"We don't know when it happened," Gonzales said.

Police were interviewing students at Napa High School Wednesday morning, she said.

Police said the alleged misconduct consisted of teammates assaulting other teammates by holding them down and hitting and grabbing them.

Gonzales said this morning that police and the Napa Valley Unified School District are investigating the allegations.

Gonzales said because the ongoing investigation involves juveniles, police may be limited in the information it can release.

Napa Valley Unified School District spokeswoman Elizabeth Emmett said the district's focus now is on the well-being of the students.
