Napa Co. Sheriff's Office ID's Female Hit & Run Victim

CALISTOGA, Calif. (AP) _ The Napa County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a woman found lying badly injured on Highway 29 in a rural area north of Calistoga.

Authorities suspect Maria Cruz Pascual Bejar of Rohnert Park was killed in a hit-and-run.

A couple found the 57-year-old woman at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday and called police.

Authorities initially said she may have been the victim of a homicide.

Sheriff's Capt. Doug Pike says the woman's whereabouts before she was found are unknown. Investigators are still trying to determine what she was doing Saturday night and how she ended up in such an isolated area.
