Grass Fire Threatens Structures In Sunol Along Interstate 680

ALAMEDA COUNTY (CBS SF) -- Crews in Alameda County were battling a three-alarm grass fire near Highway 680 in Sunol, according to CalFire.

The fire was reported burning east of 680 along Happy Valley Rd. shortly after 10:30 a.m. and has spread to least 15 acres. As of 11:30 a.m., CalFire reports the fire was 60 percent contained.

Flames reached tho the edge of several structures, but fire crews managed to save them.

Aerial views from Chopper 5 showed a helicopter dropping water on a couple of structures, including a barn, as flames drew near. A plane was also seen dropping fire retardant.

Another five-acre grass fire to the south near Koopman Road was quickly contained. Nearby, the right lane of Interstate 680 was blocked as fire crews looked for hot spots.
