Motorcyclist Killed In Crash With SUV In Hayward

HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV Sunday morning in Hayward, according to police.

The incident was reported at 11:13 a.m. at the intersection of Jackson and Amador streets.

The driver of a Chevrolet Blazer failed to yield while pulling out of a parking lot onto westbound Jackson Street just west of Amador Street, colliding with the motorcyclist, who was also headed west.

The rider was knocked off the motorcycle, which broke a fire hydrant as it came to rest, causing flooding temporary flooding.

The rider suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV's driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, who discovered that the man's license had been suspended for a DUI. The driver also had several outstanding warrants.

Charles Fulbright, a 59-year-old Hayward resident, was arrested and booked into the Hayward jail. Police say it's not yet clear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Jackson Street is expected to remain closed in both directions until 4 p.m., according to police.
