California Newspaper Saturday Editions Go Big With Same-Sex Marriage But Red Bluff Paper's Front Page Ignores History
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- California can be seen as something of a political microcosm of the United States, with predominantly liberal residents hugging the coasts and high country and a higher concentration of conservatives in the Great Central Valley and foothills.
Friday's historic ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court which made same-sex marriage the law of the land affecting all citizens was one of those events that can't be overlooked, so most California newspapers -- as well as those across the country -- played the decision and local reactions to it high on their front pages.
From Orange County to Eureka and Bakersfield to Chico, the state's front pages were emblazoned with rainbow flags, group hugs and jubilant crowds.
But editors at the Red Bluff Daily News were apparently unimpressed by Friday's landmark ruling, making no mention of it whatsoever on the front page of their paper's Saturday edition.
Below, are some front pages from California newspapers whose editors have a less idiosyncratic view of what constitutes "news."
