Monterey Peninsula College Lockdown Lifted
MONTEREY (CBS SF/BCN) -- Monterey Peninsula College reopened Friday afternoon after being locked down briefly because of a report of an armed robber near campus, Monterey police and school officials said.
Police ordered students and staff on the community college campus at 980 Fremont St. to shelter in place around 11:30 a.m., according to school officials.
An emergency alert was broadcast and students and staff were told to stay inside and lock all entrances.
After police searched the campus, it was determined that the area was safe and the order was lifted just before 1 p.m., Monterey police Lt. Leslie Sonne said.
Sonne said there apparently had been no merit to the report of an armed person near the campus.
