Mill Valley Resident Interrupts Would-Be Burglars Inside Home

MILL VALLEY (CBS SF) -- Would-be burglars fled from a home in unincorporated Mill Valley Saturday morning when a resident in the house interrupted the break-in, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

A mother and her 10-year-old daughter were awakened around 9:30 a.m. when they heard sounds coming from inside the house in the 200 block of Reed Boulevard, sheriff's officials said.

The mother called 911 and said she was home alone with her daughter when she heard someone knocking on the front door, sheriff's officials said.

She went to go answer the door, but she heard another noise downstairs and heard someone going out her front door, officials said.

She looked out the front window and saw a silver newer model SUV with a round emblem on the back driving away from the area.

She returned upstairs and waited for authorities to arrive.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the home and searched the area for the suspects or vehicle, but did not find anyone.

Deputies found that a rear back door had been pried open to get into the house.

An investigation into the attempted burglary is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Marin County

Sheriff's Office investigations unit at (415) 473-7265 or Bay Area Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
