Metal Debris Causes Dozens Of Flat Tires On Highway 24 In Lafayette
LAFAYETTE (CBS SF) - Dozens of cars were hit with flat tires during the early Friday morning commute along a stretch of Highway 24 in Lafayette, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Some sort of metal object or debris between the Central Lafayette and Orinda exits on westbound Highway 24 caused at least 30 flats along with a ruptured gas tank.
A minivan was leaking gas along the right shoulder and the fire department was reportedly en route.
CHP Officer Eric Anderson said the roadway was cleared of debris shortly after 7 a.m.
A long strip of black metal debris was the cause of the accidents, but authorities were still unsure where it had come from.
No one was injured in the incident, Anderson said.
