Memorial Set Up In Oakland For Victims Of Ghost Ship Warehouse Fire
OAKLAND (KPIX 5) -- The public has created a memorial in Oakland for the victims who died in the Ghost Ship warehouse fire.
Like most things related to the fire, the more we know the more upsetting it is. You can see a new memorial sprouted up in front of the fence that's keeping people away from the actual building. Beyond that you can get a glimpse at what's left after the tragic fire.
Now that the search process is complete, the street where the warehouse is located is once again a public space. People started coming through Sunday night to get a look for themselves. Even for members of the public who didn't know these victims, they say it's cathartic just being here.
Michelle Miller lives in Tracy and was in the crowd at the memorial om Monday.
"Looking at the windows up there, I mean there's no way they could have gotten out of there, at all," Miller said. "There was nothing, no ventilation for them, no exits, no nothing. And I'm looking at it and there's not even a back door over there. It's all brick."
Lela, a former tenant of the warehouse said, "I just had to come see for myself, it's just awful. It's just awful."
