Mayor Ed Lee Announces Return of The Blue Angels To Fleet Week 2014

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee confirmed Wednesday the return of the Blue Angels to 2014's Fleet Week celebrations in early October.

"Fleet Week is not only a time when we pay tribute to our women and men in uniform, but it is Also an opportunity to improve the way we provide humanitarian assistance and educate ourselves about disaster preparedness," Mayor Ed Lee said.

According to the Bay Guardian, Mayor Lee emphasized the importance for the many agencies to better prepare for a major disaster. "The 'show' is less important than all the multi-agency training exercises that happen in the run-up to Fleet Week," Mayor Lee tells the Bay Guardian.

San Francisco Fleet Week runs Thursday, October 9 through the Monday, the 13th. The Navy Blue Angels will have practice flights every other day with performances on Saturday, October 11 and in Sunday, October 12th.
