No Intruder Found After Lockdown And Search At Dublin Army Facility
DUBLIN (CBS SF) -- Authorities in the East Bay said a thorough search of a U.S. Army facility in Dublin after unconfirmed reports of an intruder and possible shots fired late Tuesday morning came up empty.
The reports at around 11 a.m. brought numerous police units to Camp Parks, a United States Army facility that is currently a semi-active mobilization and training center for U.S. Army Reserve personnel.
Police units from Camp Parks, Dublin and Livermore are visible, along with members of the Alameda County Sheriff's Department and numerous tactical officers walking the grounds of the training center with guns drawn.
Authorities were also using a drone to investigate the situation.
Shortly before 12 p.m., the Alameda County Sheriff's Department Twitter account posted that there was a report of an intruder at Camp Parks, but authorities had yet to see anyone or confirm that shots were fired.
Dublin schools in the area with summer school and day care programs have been told to shelter in place since receiving reports of the situation at about 11 a.m., Dublin Unified School District officials said.
The schools were not on lockdown and students there will be released to parents who arrive to pick them up, according to the school district.
An updated shortly after 1 p.m. indicated that authorities were continuing the search, but that no intruder had been located yet.
Once the search was completed, a press conference was held by the Alameda County Sheriff's Department, Dublin Police and Army officials. The authorities said that there was never an active shooter and the search for the reported intruder uncovered nothing.
Officials said the abundance of police activity was precautionary because of the unconfirmed report of the intruder and shots fired on an active military base.
The sheriff's office, which runs nearby Santa Rita Jail, also said that reports of an escape at the jail are false and that the jail has nothing to do with the situation at Camp Parks.
