Man Rams Stolen $100K BMW Through SF Showroom Windows; Later Arrested In Domestic Dispute
UPDATE: Man Suspected Of Plowing Stolen BMW Through Showroom Windows Identified
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man who allegedly stole a $100,000 BMW car from a San Francisco dealership Monday morning was arrested an hour later following a hit and run collision and domestic dispute nearby.
The 37-year-old suspect entered the BMW of San Francisco dealership on the 1600 block of Howard around 5 a.m., according to San Francisco police officer Albie Esparza.
When officers arrived, they found the front of the dealership with smashed windows and misplaced cars.
The suspect first attempted to steal a black car after locating the locked box where the key are stored, Esparza said. But after unsuccessfully attempting to take the first car, the suspect stole a M3 worth about $100,000 and rammed it through the side window onto the street.
Five minutes later, police responded to a call of an injury hit and run collision at Mason and Post streets involving a new BMW. KPIX reporter Lisa Chan reports the suspect fled the scene after crashing into a parked taxi cab where the driver was sleeping. He was not seriously injured.
At around 6:30 a.m., a police officer responded to a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. The was detained by an officer and determined to be the suspect from the burglary investigation and hit and run collision earlier in the morning.
The suspect will be booked at the San Francisco County Jail.
The family who owns the BMW of San Francisco dealership told KPIX they have never had this type of burglary in over 60 years of business.
