Man Poses As Uber Driver, Sexually Assaults Woman In SoCal

LOS ANGELES (KCBS) -- Los Angeles Police have arrested a man they say posed as an Uber driver before sexually assaulting a woman in an SUV.

Investigators say the woman was waiting for an Uber ride just west of MacArthur Park early in the morning on April 3rd.

The suspect approached the woman, and said he was with Uber, according to the LAPD.

"With some trepidation, she entered the vehicle. He took her about two blocks east, where he sexually assaulted her, choked her unconscious at least three times. The neighbors hearing her screams because she fought valiantly," LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said.

Those neighbors called police, who later fired a shot at the suspect as he sped off. The woman was able to get away. Police arrested the suspect over the weekend, and say he has an extensive criminal history.
