Man Killed In Crash On Oakland Highway Was Seen Driving Recklessly

OAKLAND (BCN) — A man was killed early Monday morning in a crash on southbound state Highway 13 in Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP responded around 1 a.m. to reports of a traffic crash in the lanes of the highway near the Redwood Road off ramp.

Responding officers located a man trapped inside a gold Cadillac that had crashed into the center divider.

The car had been traveling the wrong way on the highway.

Officers said responding paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The CHP has not released the identity of the man involved in the crash.

Officers said the single-vehicle crash closed all lanes of the highway for one hour and 45 minutes.

Investigators said speed played a factor in the crash.

The vehicle involved in the crash is the same vehicle a 911 caller reported seeing driving recklessly on westbound state Highway 24 about 10 minutes prior to the crash, according to the CHP.

The CHP is still investigating if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
