Police Safely Remove 7 Children From San Jose Home Where Armed Man Barricaded Himself

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – The San Jose Police Department have safely removed nine people, including seven children, from a San Jose home where an armed man was reportedly barricaded inside.

San Jose Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Heather Randol said they initially received a call around 9:44 p.m. on Tuesday night of a man standing in the street holding a gun.

Police said the man retreated to a home in the area of Larch Grove Court and Hayes Avenue before officers arrived on the scene.  The Mobile Emergency Response Group and Equipment (MERGE) Unit cleared the scene Wednesday morning.

Two adults and seven children in between the ages of 1-13 were found uninjured. The suspect must have slipped out not long after the first report
was received Tuesday night, Randol said.

Oak Grove High School was temporarily closed while police resolved the situation but reopened at 9:15 a.m.
