Man Arrested After Allegedly Robbing El Cerrito Bank, Fleeing On Skateboard
EL CERRITO (CBS SF) -- A 30-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly robbing a bank in El Cerrito and fleeing on a skateboard.
The suspect entered the Mechanics Bank at 9990 San Pablo Ave. around 1 p.m. last Friday, presented a teller with a note demanding cash, police said.
The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money and fled the bank.
Officers responding to the robbery immediately worked with bank personnel to track the stolen money using the bank's GPS tracking service and a police tracking beacon.
The GPS service tracked the suspect moving at about 8.9 mph near the intersection of Cutting Boulevard and 38th Street where they found him riding his skateboard, according to police.
The suspect, identified as David Blackshear, was stopped and officers found evidence of the robbery in possession, according to police.
Police said Blackshear is a transient who was on parole at the time of the robbery and had a warrant out for a previous parole violation. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and taken to county jail.
