Man Allegedly Kills Girlfriend In Front Of Her Children While She's Behind Wheel In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A man in the passenger seat of a car allegedly shot dead his girlfriend while she was behind the wheel in San Jose - and in front of the couple's baby and the woman's teenage daughter - according to police and family members.
The man is currently on the loose and the subject of a statewide manhunt.
San Jose Police said officers responded to a call of a person shot and laying in the street on the 1300 block of S. Bascom Ave. just before 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. 33-year-old Kendra Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined Gonzalez was driving a vehicle with 25-year-old Andrew "Drew" Butler in the passenger seat, along with the couple's baby and two other passengers in the back seat.
Family members told KPIX 5 the baby is the couple's two-year-old boy. Family members also said two people in the back seat were Gonzalez' teenage daughter and her daughter's boyfriend.
Police said Gonzalez and Butler were involved in an argument when Butler shot Gonzalez. After the vehicle was stopped, Butler got out and removed Gonzalez' body from the driver's seat, leaving her on the roadway, police said.
Butler then ordered the Gonzalez' daughter and the daughter's boyfriend to get out of the car and take the baby with them before driving away, according to police. The car was later found abandoned in Salinas.
Butler remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. Police said he may be in the Sacramento area but also has ties to Monterey County cities of Salinas, Marina, Seaside and Monterey.
He is described as African American, 5 feet 5 inches, 140 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair, and has a mole near the left eye. He was last seen wearing a navy blue short-sleeve shirt with "Ford" written across the chest, navy blue sweat pants, and possibly black "Reebok" athletic shoes with grey or white trim.
