Magnitude 7.5 Quake Strikes Peru-Brazil Border, No Tsunami Threat
(CBS SF) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.5 struck Peru near the Brazil border Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake struck about 5:45 p.m. Peru time Tuesday (about 2:45 p.m. Pacific) about 107 miles northwest of the town of Iberia, in the Madre de Dios region of the South American country.
According to the National Tsunami Warning Center and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no danger of a tsunami to the West Coast or Hawaii.
There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
