Magnitude 3.2 earthquake strikes off coast of San Francisco
DALY CITY – A magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck off the coast of San Francisco Friday afternoon, officials said.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at 1:32 p.m., with the epicenter located about three miles west of Fort Funston. Preliminary reports had the earthquake at a magnitude 3.4.
More than 2,000 people reported to the USGS website that they felt shaking. Most of the reports were in San Francisco and in several Peninsula communities, including Daly City, Pacifica and San Bruno.
Shaking was reported from as far away as the North Bay and East Bay.
"Just like a little jolt and then things rattled and shook in our classroom. I thought the plant was gonna tip over but it didn't," Jennifer Drennan, a schoolteacher in Daly City, told CBS News Bay Area. Some books did come down on our campus library, so we've got a little extra shelving to do but no structural damage or anything like that."
There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Friday afternoon's earthquake took place hours after a magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck off the far Northern California coast, about 60 miles off Humboldt County. No damage or injuries were reported from that quake.
