San Francisco Immigration Specialist Accused Of Fraud
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) – A San Francisco immigration specialist is accused of defrauding the very people he was supposed to protect.
Leo Lacayo has run "Lacayo and Associates" for 30 years, offering counseling services to immigrants trying to gain legal status.
City Attorney Dennis Herrera accuses Lacayo of charging exorbitant fees and passing himself off as an attorney with expertise in immigration law.
"As a result, thousands of families that went to them for services relating to immigration status and the like oftentimes were done shoddily or not done at all," Herrera told KPIX 5.
The city attorney is seeking an injunction to shut down Lacayo's operation immediately.
Lacayo has not responded to KPIX 5's requests for comment.
