Larry Magid: Google Chromebox Offers Teleconferencing Alternative

MOUNTAIN VIEW (KCBS) – A new system from Google, called Chromebox for Meetings, is looking to simplify the video conferencing experience for businesses.

The teleconferencing system was introduced on Thursday. The system includes a Core i7-powered Chromebox, remote control, microphone-speaker combo, and high-definition Webcam.

Google said the system will retail for $999, with the initial fee including service for one year. It will cost $250 per year thereafter.

The system is seen as a low-priced alternative for many smaller businesses, that don't have the means to purchase an expensive teleconferencing system, that is oftentimes too complicated to operate in the first place.

The system is already available in the United States and officials with Google plan to offer it to other countries across the globe later this year.

You can hear Larry Magid's Tech Report Monday through Friday at 3:50pm on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
