Lake Tahoe Brimming With Water For First Time In Months

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE (CBS SF) -- For the first time in almost a year, Lake Tahoe is over its natural rim.

Meteorologists excitedly announced April 10, the lake had surpassed the rim and was spilling into the Truckee River.

The news caps off a dismal water year for the lake, which had been below its rim since June of 2015. By December its water level was still 1.5 feet below.

Since then, the wet winter and the start of the spring snow melt have sent 60 billion gallons of water flowing into the lake.

According to the National Weather Service Lake Tahoe is now over its rim by a half an inch. With this year's above-average snowpack levels, it is expected to continue rising.
