La Boulange Locations In San Francisco To Begin Closing

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Fans of La Boulange may be crying into their pastries over rumors that store closures will begin this week in San Francisco, but some of the locations could get a new lease on life under new ownership.

Starbucks acquired La Boulange parent company Bay Bread LLC for $100 million in 2012, looking to bolster its food-product menu. Starbucks ended up replacing its own baked goods with pastries from La Boulange, expanding its menu to include lunch sandwiches, along with the pastries and breakfast sandwiches from La Boulange.

A Starbucks representative told Hoodline that the company is "in the early stages of a phased store closure through September 25th."

But, a handful of locations may be taken over by new owners, who would have to operate under a different name now that Starbucks owns La Boulange.
