Korean Mother Found Dead In Newark Home With Children Inside; Husband Arrested
NEWARK (CBS SF) -- A Korean citizen has been charged with killing his wife after her body was found inside the Newark home they shared with two young children, police said.
The Newark Police Department said it received a call asking for a welfare check on people living in a home on the 5600 block of McLaughlin Ave. Monday night.
Officers who responded found Eunkyoung Han, 38, dead inside the home. The officers also found the home in disarray with blood stains and broken items strewn about indicating a struggle, police said.
The woman's husband, 39-year-old Hee Jin Kim, along with the couple's infant and another child four years old were also in the home, police said. It was not clear whether the young child had seen the body or witnessed her death.
The husband did not cooperate with officers and did not offer details about what had happened, according to police. He was arrested and booked on a homicide charge.
The children were taken to a hospital for examination as a precaution and placed in protective custody, police said.
Both the victim and the suspect are Korean nationals. The original call for a welfare check was made by someone who was asked by a family friend living in Korea to check on the family, according to police. A police department spokesman credited the South Korean Consulate with helping investigators determine the victim's next-of-kin and contacting them in South Korea.
