Known Gang Members Arrested For Felony Battery On Police Officer In Santa Rosa Following Fight

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- Sonoma County deputies arrested two known gang members Saturday on suspicion of felony battery on a police officer following a fight in Santa Rosa, deputies said.

At around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, deputies were patrolling the area of Santa Rosa Avenue and Todd Road, according to the sheriff's office.

The deputies, who were part of a Multi-Agency Gang Task Force, observed a known gang member who was reportedly violating the terms of his probation by being in a car at the Rotten Robbie gas station on Todd Road with other gang members.

The reported parole violator was identified as Ivan Rodriguez, 21, of Clearlake, deputies said.

When the officers tried to arrest him, he resisted and shouted to his friends that they should leave the scene in their car, according to deputies.

Meanwhile, deputies said a man identified as Richard Contreras, 21, also from Clearlake, jumped into the fight with the officers.

Ultimately, other deputies arrived and took both Rodriguez and Contreras into custody.

Deputies searched the parking lot and discovered a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

Deputies arrested and booked Rodriguez and Contreras into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of felony battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, violating probation and participating in a street gang.

The bail amounts for each were set at $75,000.

Both of the officers involved in the fight were treated for their injuries at a hospital and released.
