Oakland Man Found In Trunk After Being Kidnapped, 2 Arrested
OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Two men have been arrested Friday on suspicion of kidnapping a man in Oakland and holding him for ransom for 10 hours.
According to police, the suspects kidnapped the victim near High Street in East Oakland late Thursday night.
"We do believe that our victim was targeted," said Officer Frank Bonifacio of the Oakland Police Department.
Police said they tracked the man to a home out of town. When the suspects drove away from the home, police found their car and the suspects led the officers in a brief pursuit. The suspects were arrested after they crashed in Hayward.
"They had guns on the guys and called for them on a megaphone to get out of the car and get on the ground and scoot backwards toward them," said Raymond Ortaz who witnessed the crash.
After arresting the men, police said they found the victim in the trunk. "We heard sounds in the trunk and we opened the trunk and that's when we observed the victim inside," said Oakland police Lt. Nishant Joshi.
"I just met with him and he's very glad to be back home with his family. He's got some minor injuries but he's gonna be alright," Joshi said.
Police are still investigating, saying there could be additional suspects.
