Kevin Durant Breaks Down Name Drops In Famous Hip-Hop Songs
By Rahul Lal
Kevin Durant has been one of the most famous basketball players in the NBA since he was drafted in 2007. The newest addition to the Warriors is not unfamiliar with his name being thrown around but still gets a shock with certain shout outs.
Durant has been a fan of hip-hop since he was a child and has even worked on his own music including a feature with renowned star Wale called 'The Best In The League.'
Durant sat down and discussed his name being used in songs by rappers Drake, Jay-Z, J. Cole, Fabolous and Logic.
'Weston Road Flows' by Drake
Lyric:
A lot of people just hit me up when my name is mentions
Shout out to KD, we relate, we get the same attention.
It's raining money, Oklahoma City Thunder
The most successful rapper 35 and under.
Durant's Reaction:
"When I first heard it, you know, he's my favorite rapper, you get a shout out in a song you look around and see if anyone else heard it."
'Crown' by Jay-Z
Lyric:
It's a new day, hit up KD.
Durant's Reaction:
"I didn't care what the beat sounded like or anything, it was just that he put my name in a song...When I signed with Roc Nation, it felt like a changing of the guard...we're just doing it our way now."
'What It Look Like' by Curren$y Feat. Wale
Lyric:
I'm Durant at the Rucker.
Durant's Reaction:
"It was important for me to play on all the best street ball courts and Rucker Park was number one on the list so a lot of guys come up to me and talk about me scoring 66 points at Rucker."
'Steve Jobs' by Fabolous
Lyric:
Big house, couple rides
Call that Neverland Ranch.
Tre pounds, shoot fast,
Call that Kevin Durant

"I feel like I'm in the wild, wild west [on the court]. I'm just waiting around to pull my gun out and be ready to shoot."
Fire Squad by J. Cole
Lyric:
Meets the '02 Lil Wayne,
In a new white tee.
Meets KD,
Can't nobody shoot like me.
Reaction:
"J. Cole, I feel as though he's in the top tier of rappers…he can play a bit [of basketball]."
