Katy Tang Replaces David Chiu As President Of SF Board Of Supervisors
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) -- On Monday, Katy Tang replaces David Chiu as president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. It's the highest position in City Hall ever won by an Asian-American woman.
Tang is finishing out the position for Chiu, who won a seat in the state assembly -- beating out fellow supervisor David Campos in November.
That rankles some of the other supervisors, who suspect Chiu of a power grab by ordering a vote for his replacement while Campos was on vacation.
"I don't take it personally, I understand where they're coming from," Tang told KPIX 5's Linda Yee. "But I hope at the end of the day we can all still work together."
At 30, Tang may be the youngest supervisor but she's no rookie. She already has worked eight years in City Hall in the mayor's budget office and as a legislative aide to another supervisor.
Tang grew up in the city's Sunset District, which she now represents. Affordable housing in her neighborhood is her priority.
