Kamala Harris Squashes Supreme Court Rumors
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – California Attorney General and 2016 U.S. Senate candidate Kamala Harris has ended speculation in her interest becoming a U.S. Supreme Court justice.
Speaking at a campaign event in San Jose, Harris said, "I'm not going to be on the Supreme Court. Take my name off the list."
Harris had been floated as a potential replacement for Justice Antonin Scalia, who died last Saturday.
President Barack Obama addressed the Supreme Court vacancy at the U.S.-ASEAN Summit in Rancho Mirage on Tuesday. "I intend to nominate in due time a very well-qualified candidate," Obama said.
The president also criticized calls from Senate Republicans to have Obama's successor make the nomination.
Harris is seeking to replace Sen. Barbara Boxer, who is retiring.
